What is Tuckman’s teamwork theory?
Forming, storming, norming, performing, adjourning
Describe ‘forming’ part of theory
Forming –> Team acts as individuals and there is lack of clarity about team’s purpose and individual roles
Describe ‘storming’ part of theory
Conflict arises as people being to establish their place in team
Describe ‘norming’ part of theory
Level of consensus and agreement. Clarity about individual roles. Role of leader is important in managing this.
Describe ‘performing’ part of theory
Group has clear strategy and shared vision. Can operate autonomously and resolve issues positively

Process –> Thinking about thinking and planning for action
What is the white hat?
Facts –> Information known about the problem
What is the red hat?
Feelings –> How does everyone feel about the current problem

Benefits –> Positives, why an idea is useful

Cautions –> Difficulties, weaknesses, dangers

Provides a logical eye, making impartial judgements where required and weighs up the team’s options in a dispassionate way.

Provides the necessary drive to ensure that the team keeps moving and does not lose focus or momentum.

Needed to plan a workable strategy and carry it out as efficiently as possible.

Most effectively used at the end of tasks to polish and scrutinise the work for errors, subjecting it to the highest standards of quality control.
