Q

What is purpose of habit 1 - ‘be proactive’?

A

Being proactive is about taking responsibility for your life

Stimulus –> Freedom to Choose –> Response

Covey described self awareness as allowing us to stand apart from ourselves and think about our very thought processes and examine our paradigms. In addition it makes us aware of our emotional responses and how these drive us to respond in ways that we know to be wrong

Gaining an awareness of the areas we expend our energy on is a giant step forward in becoming more proactive.

Q

What is the purpose of habit 2 - ‘begin with the end in mind’?

A

Based on the principle that all things are created twice: mental creation, and a physical or second creation. Habit 2 is the first (mental) creation

Covey described this habit as meaning to “know where you are going so that you better understand where you are now and so that the steps you take are always in the right direction”.
