What is emotional intelligence?
Understanding one’s own feelings, empathy for the feelings of others and the regulation of emotion in a way that enhances living
What are the 4 parts of emotional intelligence?
Self awareness, self management, social awareness, social skills
What is the difference between ‘emotion focused’ and ‘problem focused’ coping?
Emotion –> Coping efforts that are directed toward regulating emotional states
Problem –> Efforts to act on the source of stress to change
the person, the environment, or the relationship between the two:
1. Accept that there is an issue
2. Apply problem solving
Who suggested the ‘coping reservoir? What is it?
Dunn et al. (2008) suggest individuals have a ‘coping reservoir’ made up of personal traits, temperament, and your coping style.
Factors like stress can drain the reservoir.
Coping strategies such as social support can fill it.
What are the 5 dimensions of resilience?
- Self efficacy

- Ability to engage help and support
- Learning from difficulties

What is the sphere of control?
Inside –> What you can control
Middle –> What you can influence
Outside –> Everything else (outside of your control and influence)

Is IQ a good predictor of success and achievement?
No its a poor predictor of success and performance
Why is emotional intelligence more important than IQ?
Emotional intelligence can evolve and develop, so long as the desire to learn and grow as a person is present. IQ doesn’t change significantly over time.

Desire to become the most one can be - lack of prejudice, morality, creativity, acceptance
