dual-process dependency model
General model of social influence in which two separate processes operate
- > dependency on others for social approval
- > dependency on others for information about reality
Conformity
deep-seated, private, enduring change in behaviour & attitudes due to group pressure
informational influence
process/influence in which people accept information from others as evidence about reality
normative influence
process/influence in which people accept information from others
-> gain social approval/avoid social disapproval
referent informational influence
pressure to conform to a group norm that defines oneself as a group member
Autokinesis (experiment)
optical illusion in which pinpoint of light shining in complete darkness appears to move about
-> look if one just agrees with the group no matter if it’s true or not
