Targets policies Flashcards
Natura 200 obligations
- avoid damagin activities that could significantly disturb the species or deteriorate the habiat
- take positive conservation measures
- Obligatory permitting procedure for plans that could damage Natura 2000 sites
Target CRMA
EU should:
- extract 10%
- process 40%
- recycle 25%
of its annual consumpion of strategic raw materials by 2030
Targets plastic waste U’s Directive on single-use plastics
- a 77% separate collection target for plastic bottles by 2025 – increasing to 90% by 2029
- incorporating 25% of recycled plastic in PET beverage bottles from 2025, and 30% in all plastic beverage bottles from 2030
TSI goals:
The Technical Support Instrument helps EU Member States design and implement resilience-enhancing reforms by providing expertise to national authorities. The support is on demand and can include strategic and legal advice, studies, training and expert visits on the ground.
Member States can request support to:
- implement resilience-enhancing reforms in the context of EU economic governance, such as those arising from country-specific recommendations under the European
Semester and by virtue of implementing EU law
- prepare, amend, implement and revise national recovery and resilience plans under the Recovery and Resilience Facility
- implement economic adjustment programmes
- implement reforms undertaken at their own initiative
Goal water policy
The EU’s main aim is to ensure that all Europeans have access to good quality and sufficient water, and to guarantee the good status of all water bodies across Europe.
EU rules aim to ensure that water is managed sustainably in the long-term, water pollution is reduced, and aquatic ecosystems are protected.
In the context of the European Green Deal, the Water Framework Directive provides the main foundation and objectives for water policy in Europe.
In her 2024-2029 Political Guidelines, President von der Leyen announced a new European Water Resilience Strategy to ensure that water sources are properly managed, scarcity is addressed, and the competitive and innovative edge of our water industry is enhanced while also taking a more circular approach.
Instruments Ambient Air Quality Directive
It comes with a series of new measures and stricter standards to make sure Europeans enjoy healthier air by:-
- Cutting by more than half the allowed annual limit value for the main air pollutant – fine particulate matter (PM2.5);
- Updating air quality standards for allowed levels in ambient air for a total of twelve air pollutants, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide/nitrogen oxides, particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), ozone, benzene, lead, carbon monoxide, arsenic, cadmium, nickel, and benzo(a)pyrene;
- Regularly reviewing air quality standards, in line with the latest scientific evidence as well as societal and technological developments;
- Ensuring that people suffering from health damages due to air pollution have the right to be compensated in the case of a violation of EU air quality rules.
Goals EU Air
The EU aims to improve air quality to protect human health and the environment. More specifically, EU policies aim to
reduce the number of premature deaths and sicknesses caused by air pollution
reduce pollution pressure on ecosystems and biodiversity
Target: At least 55% reduction of premature deaths due to particulate matter by 2030 (EU target)
EU target Circular Economy Package
- A common EU target to recycle 65% of municipal waste by 2035 (55% by 2025 and 60% by 2030);
- A common EU target to recycle 70% of packaging waste by 2030;
- A binding landfill target to reduce landfill to a maximum of 10% of municipal waste by 2035;
- A ban on the landfilling of separately collected waste, requiring separate collection for biowaste by 2023 and for textiles and hazardous waste from households by 2025.
All pollution targets
Air: -55% premature deaths
water: -50% sea plastic and -30% microplastics
Soil: -50% nutrient loss, -50% use/risk of chemical pesticides
Fire:
- -50% residual municipal waste
- -25% ecosystem in which biodiversity is threatened by air polluton
- -30% persons chronically disturbed by noise
