T1L1 The heart Flashcards
Name the 4 chambers of the heart
Left ventricle, Left atrium, Right ventricle and Right atrium
Name the vessel that carries oxygenated blood into the heart
Pulmonary vein
Name the vessel that carries oxygenated blood to the body
Aorta
Name the vessel that carries deoxygenated blood into the heart
Vena Cava
Name the vessel that carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs
Pulmonary artery
Name the (4) valves in the heart and where they are located
Bicuspid valve - between the left atrium and left artery
Tricuspid valve - between the right atrium and right artery
Semilunar valves x2 - in pulmonary artery out of the heart, other in aorta out of the heart
Name the three stages of the cardiac cycle in order
- Atrial Systole
- Ventricular systole
- Diastole
Describe what happens in atrial systole
Atria contract and Ventricles relax
This increases the pressure of the blood, forcing it through the atrioventricular valves into the ventricles
Describe what happens in ventricular systole
Ventricles contract
This increases pressure in the ventricles, forcing blood through the semilunar valves and out of the heart
Describe what happens in diastole
Atria and ventricles relax
Semilunar valves close
Blood starts to fill up in the atria
Which chamber are pacemaker cells located in
The right atrium
