What are the current guidelines for hypertension?
Normal: Less than 120/80
Elevated: Systolic between 120-129/Diastolic less than 80
Stage 1: Systolic between 130-139/ Diastolic between 80-89
Stage 2: Systolic at least 140 or diastolic at least 90
Crisis: Systolic over 180 and diastolic over 120
What does pulse oximetry measure and what values would suggest that supplemental O2 would be required?
Arterial blood oxygenation. Anything below 90% is cause for concern.
What aspects of pulse can be assessed?
Rate
Rhythm
Quality
What parameters of respiration can be assessed?
Rate, depth, rhythm, sound.
What do the numbers in BP readings represent?
The top number is systolic pressure and is the highest pressure exerted by the blood against arterial walls. The lowest number is the diastolic pressure and is the lowest pressure exerted by the blood against arterial walls.
