What’s the difference between and sprain and a strain?
A
A strain is when a muscle has been overstretched. A sprain is when an injury has occurred to a joint, ligament, or the capsule.

What types of sprains are there? What symptoms would you see for each one?
A
Grade 1: overstretching, fibers intact
-NORMAL acc motion, firm end feel, pain
Grade 2: partial tear
-MINOR increase acc motion, end feel is less distinct, pain
Grade 3: complete tear
-HYPERMOBILE acc motion, soft end feel, not painful

What’s the difference between effusion and edema?
A
Effusion is extra fluid confined to a space. This can be acute or chronic. When acute: immediate swelling. When chronic: overuse causes synovitis.
