A

How do you divide open syllables?

A

Divide an open syllable before the consonant. Example: mi/ser. The syllable ends with long vowel i and is an open syllable. The second syllable ser ends with short vowel sound, ends in a consonant and is a closed syllable

How do you divide closed syllables?

A
  1. Divide the syllable between two consonants in the middle of a word. Example: pen/cil
  2. Divide between the 2 consonants when the 2 middle consonants are the same. Example: pil/low

A

The first vowel is usually long, so we divide between the vowels.
