What is a figure of speech?
A figure of speech describes something in a way that is not literal. The meaning is not exactly what is written.

It compares two different things without using the words like or as.
What is personification?
Personification means to make something seem like it is a person.
What is an oxymoron?
It is where two opposite words are joined together to create a unique effect. It adds interest to writing because it is both true and false at the same time.
What is hyperbole?
It is a figure of speech that uses exaggeration for emphasis, effect or impact. It is not meant to be interpreted literally.

Blind as a bat.

He is a night owl.

The plants begged for water.
