SURFACE AREA ON RATE OF REACTION Flashcards
Why does the rate of reaction increase when the surface area is larger
higher surface area = more particles per unit time
= increased rate of reaction
compare the surface area to volume ratio of small blocks to large blocks
explain what this means in terms of rate of reaction
smaller sized blocks have a greater surface area to volume ratio than larger blocks. This means they have more particles exposed on the surface so there are more collisions per unit time this increases the rate of reaction
name the apparatus which is more accurate than using an upside-down measuring cylinder to count the number of bubbles of gas
gas cylinder
when measuring mass of gas produced what apparatus is used
- conical flask
- balance
- cotton wool (allows gas to escape and prevents any acid splashing out of the flask)
