*** These muscles are part of the Submandibular Triangle

19
Q

The Submandibular Gland is drained by the Submandibular Duct. What is another name for the Submandibular Duct?

A

Wharton’s Duct

20
Q

Where does the Submandibular Duct empty into the floor of the mouth?

A

Apex of the Sublingual CARUNCLE which is adjacent to the Lingual Frenulum

21
Q

Which Nerve will wrap around the Submandibular Duct?

A

Lingual N.

22
Q

Describe the innervation of the Submandibular Gland.

A

Parasympathetics:

  • PREganglionic: SUPERIOR SALIVATORY NUCLEUS exit the brainstem with the Facial N., along the Chorda Tympani and joins with the LINGUAL N. before going into the SUBMANDIBULAR GANGLION
  • POSTganglionics: Short fibers will go to parenchyma of the Submandigular and Sublingual Glands

Sympathetics:

  • POSTganglionics: Originate in the SUPERIOR CERVICAL ganglion and go to the gland via the EXTERNAL CAROTID/FACIAL Plexuses in the Adventitia of the respected Arteries (Perivascular Plexuses)
23
Q

Describe the relationship of the Lingual Nerve in mouth.

A

Behind the 3rd molar, between the Medial Pterygoid and the Mandible!

24
Q

The Lingual N. is going to wrap around the Submandibular Duct between which 2 Muscles? Also, in which fashion will it wrap around the duct?

A
  1. Mylohyoid M.
  2. Hyoglossus M.

** Superolateral to Inferomedial Direction!

25
Q

List the contents of the Submandibular Triangle. (12)

A
