Why was the rhineland still significant in 1925?
Allied forces remained occupation of the Rhineland and the French would not agree to remove these forces unless and until a final settlement of the reparations issue had been agreed
What did the young plan oblige Germany to do?
Continue paying reparations until the year 1988
By how much was the reparations bill reduced?
It was reduced by £4.7 billion from 6.5 down to 1.8 (Should have increased it!)
Although the overall reparations bill increased how did the annual payment change?
The annual payment actually increased
What happened to control of reparations due to the young plan?
All foreign control over reparations ended and the responsibility of repayment was placed solely on the German government
In return of the responsibility of repayment being on the German government what did Britain and France do?
They withdrew all troops from the Rhineland by June 1930
How did the Young plan go down in Germany?
Inflamed nationalist opinion in Germany. The DNVP launched a nationwide campaign against the plan, including Hitler and the Nazis. There was a ‘ freedom law’ set up meaning it would have to be passed by a national referendum
What happened to the freedom law once it was put forward to the reichstag?
It was decisively rejected
