Sullivan’s Transactional Analysis Flashcards
a psychoanalytic theory and method of
therapy wherein social interactions (or “transactions”) are analyzed to
determine the ego state of the communicator (whether parent-like, childlike,
or adult-like) as a basis for understanding behavior.
Transactional Analysis
He believed that anxiety and other psychiatric symptoms arise from fundamental conflicts between the individual and his human environment and that personality development takes place by a series of interactions with other people.
Sullivan
He believes that personality is a pure entity, “an illusion”, which cannot be examined or studies apart from interpersonal situations; it is not the person.

Infancy (birth to 18 months)
During this stage of development, speech forms the framework upon which subsequent learning.
Childhood( 18 months to 6 years old)
During this period, a wide variety of playmates and access to healthy socialization and social skills become increasingly important
Juvenile( 6-9 years)
In adolescence, the ability to form close friendships assist the child in developing self esteem and serve as practice for later relationship.
Pre adolescence( 9-12 Years)
Friendship takes sexual dimension and the focus on relationship with peers shifts toward romantic interest.
Early adolescence( 12- 14 years)
The young struggles with conflicts between parental control and the desire to form an independent identity, while beginning to focus on both romance and friendship
Late adolescence( 14-21)
The primary struggles od adulthood include family, financial security and rewards career. Socialization continues to play
