When are substances considered a problem?
Occupational roles
Interpersonal or legal issues
Risky behavior
Substance use disorder
Irreversible brain circuit changes
Behavioral relapse
Strong cravings
Intoxications: temporary state of high- with problematic behavior
Withdrawal: symptoms immediately following the stoppage of a substance that impact function
Substance induced disorders
Disorders that are typically reversable if the substance is stopped
Severe but temporary
Symptoms disappear after a month or so
They include:
- Intoxication

- Psychotic disorders
- Depressive disorders
- Sleep disorders
- Sexual disorders
- Anxiety disorders
