Study Guide 4.3 Flashcards
What are greenhouse gases?
Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the atmosphere
What do greenhouse gases do?
Greenhouse gases absorbs the suns heat and prevent it from going back into space
What is the greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect occurs when greenhouse gases in a planet’s atmosphere keep the planet from losing heat, raising its surface temperature
Why is it important?
It is important because without these gases, Earth would not be able to sustain life
What do ice cores tell us about the patterns of CO2 and temperature for the past 800,000 years?
Ice cores tell us what the temperature was like and what happened during that time
What is positive feedback?
Positive feedback multiples the original change
What is negative feedback?
Negative feedback negates the original change
How do different things in the atmosphere change the temperature?
They change the temperature because they either have a positive or negative feedback
