Studies Flashcards
Random controlled trial study
Participants are randomly put into either experimental group or the control group.
Experimental design
Participants are placed into a certain group to see if there are relationships between variables.
Longitudinal study
Study that happens over a long period of time.
Cross- sectional study
Focuses on collecting data from a specific period of time.
Moderating variable v. Mediating variable.
Moderating variable is a variable that effects the strength of one variable on another.
Mediating variable is a variable that explains the relationship between variables.
Double- blind study
Both the subjects and the experimenters don’t know whose getting the tested drug or whose getting the placebo.
Correlation coefficient ( r)
Used to test the correlation between variables.
ranges from -1 to 1
where (-) signify a negative linear relationship and (+) a positive linear relationship. Closer to one there is a stronger linear correlation whereas 0 signify no correlation.
