define rules in sport
rules in sport are a set of criteria which must be followed in order for an athlete to participate fairly. For example, handball is not allowed in soccer. They are pre-agreed upon sets of principles, governing a sport or physical activity for reasons of safety, sportsmanship, equipment or facility design, and competitiveness.
define ritual in sport
Rituals: a ritual in sport is an action or behaviour which an athlete does leading up to or during a sporting event which they believe to have a specific purpose or power to enhance their performance. These rituals can range from clothes worn, foods eaten or music played before a performance.
define convention in sport
Conventions: a convention in sport is like a tradition or something which is done the majority of the time. Conventions are like the unwritten rules of sporting events. Conventions include shaking hands with an opponent before or after a game of football/hurling or boxers touching gloves before a fight.
Give some example of structures in sport
Football (Soccer) Formations – e.g., 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-5-2
Scrum wheel – Twisting the scrum to win a penalty.
Wide Play (Expansive Rugby) – Spreading the ball to the wings quickly for fast, attacking rugby.
In basketball - 4-Out, 1-In Offense
Give some example of strategies in sport
rugby- Switch Plays: Changing the direction of attack to confuse defenders.
swimming- Negative Split Strategy: Swimming faster in the second half of a race. Optimized Relay Order: Placing the fastest swimmer last (anchor leg).
F1-Undercut Strategy: Pitting earlier than opponents to gain an advantage with fresh tires.
