STRUCTURAL JOINTS Flashcards
Isolation joints
Also called expansion joints, allow movement between columns, slabs and walls BCI 3.19
Construction Joints
typically between two different pours of concrete in a slab. However can also be utilized as isolation or control joints if it is necessary BCI 3.19
Control Joints
Created intentionally to give some room to concrete to crack in case a tensile stress.
-Suggested location at 15’ to 20’ O.C. or when it is necessary to turn an irregularly shaped slab into rectangular or square sections
