Q

Where should you place a building on a south facing hill in a cold climate?

A

Mid-Hill, best for it to be sheltered from the northern wind where you don’t get direct sunlight. And have the most exposure and openings towards the southern facing portion. Sun is also lower in the winter therefore having it at the mid hill could optimize the amount of light throughout the sunlight hours.
