what happens in a haemorrhagic stroke?
when bleeding occurs in or around brain tissue
name two causes of haemorrhagic strokes
high blood pressure
weakened blood vessel walls
what happens in an ischaemic stroke?
a clot blocks blood flow to part of the brain, stopping that area from receiving any oxygen
which type of stroke is more common?
ischaemic
what are the three possible causes of ischaemic stroke?
thrombosis
embolism
hypoperfusion
what age group is more commonly affected by stroke?
older people
what is the biggest risk factor for a stroke?
hypertension
which stroke patients are recommended to receive statin therapy?
patients who have had an ischaemic stroke
