Ischemic
infarction of brain tissue resulting in compromised blood flow
Atherosclerotic

Hemorrhagic
bleeding of the brain due to ruptured cerebral artery
Non-modifiable risk factors
Age, gender, race
FH
Low birth weight
Sickle cell disease
Modifiable risk factors
CV disease (A-fib, vascular disease)
HTN
HLD
DM
Alcohol abuse
Obesity
Smoking
Presentation
Dysphasia (difficulty speaking)
Facial drooping
Unilateral/bilateral weakness
Ataxia
Vision changes
Headache–>most common with hemorrhagic
Assess
NIHSS: score 0-42
Imaging: CT scan or MRI
Tests: ECG
-NSR: atherosclerotic ischemic
-A-fib: cardioembolic
Vital signs: BP, O2
Labs: Blood glucose, CBC, BMP, INR, aPTT
