Stress Flashcards
Acute stress
the stress that lasts for a short time
Chronic
stress that continues for long period of time
Adrenaline
hormine discharged during stress, aslo caled epinephrine
Gut-brain axis
GBA is biodirectional (functions in two oppposite directions), multi-faced (has many sides) communication k=link berween the central and enteric nevious system
Cortisol
a hormone discharged from the adrenal glands in respone of a stressor
Gut microbiota
mirobes, battle between acteria and fungi, present in each individuals gut
Internal stressor
stressor that orginates within an individual
Enteric nervous system
one of the main divisions of the automic NS, mamages the function of the digestive system (gastrointestinal)
External stressor
stressor that orginates from individuals outsides environment and situation
Alarm reaction
the frist stage of the genral adaption syndrome, body goes into a temporary state of shock, then counter shock
Counter-shock
during frist stage, symoathetic nervous system us activated, Fight-Flight-Freeze respinse is activated and adrenaline is relased
Exhaustion stage
third stage of the General Adaption Syndrome, body can no linger sustain resistance
Resistance stage
the second stage of General Adaption Sydrome, cortisol is relased and all unecessary functions are shut down
Cortisol helps parasympathetic stay dominant
Shock (alarm reaction)
during the first alarm reaction stage, the body acts as though it is injured, blood pressure and body tempreture drops
