Occur when demands made upon individual are greater than their ability to cope

Distress- Negative stress, damaging and harmful
Eustress- Positive stress, beneficial and motivating

Fight or flight- respond external acute stressor

Blood flow- increase muscle
Skeletal muscles- contract
Spleen- release more eryhtrocytes
Mouth- drier saliva and mucus dry up
What 3 parts to general adaption syndrome?
Alarm- threat or stressor identified
Adaption/resistance- body engage countermeasure
Exhaustion- body runs out defense

Susceptibility disease/illness increased
