Explosive Strength

A

– Vertical Jump Test

  • Resting Jump Height vs Jumping Height

Advantages - Easy test with minimal equipment

  • Test can be adminstered by participant
  • Get power output estimate

Disadvantages - The meaasure is not isolated to one muscle group
- Only estimates explosive strength in the legs

Maximum strength

A

– One repetition maximum test

  • Increase weight until only one rep can be achieved

Advantages - Direct objective measurement of isotonic maximum strength

  • Easy procedure
  • Most muscle groups can be tested

Disadvantages - Difficult to isolate muscles

  • Trial and error may induce early fatigue
  • Good technique is essential otherwise injury may occur

Strength endurance

A
  • UK abdominal curl test
  • Subject performs sits at progressive intensities till exhausation to an audio cuee

Advantages - Large groups can perform test at same time

  • Only simple annd cheap equipment required
  • Abdominal muscles can be isolated
  • Valid and reliable test

Disadvantages - Good technique is essential or lower spine issues occur

  • Maximal test to exhausation limited by subject motivation
  • Test is not sport-specific
