Aerobic Capacity and VO2 Max Flashcards
Aerobic Capacity
The ability of the body to inspire, transport and utilise oxygen to perform sustained amounts of aerobic capacity
Factors affect Aerobic Capacity
Respiratory systen
Cardiovascular system
Muscular system
VO2 Max
Maximum volume of oxygen inspired transported and utilised per minute during exxhauustivwe exercise
Measured in ml/kg/min
Untrained vs TRained
UN - 50-60% of VO2 max before fatiguing
Trained - excess of 85% of VO2 max
Affecting Factors of VO2 Max - Physiological makeup
The greater the efffiencey of the respirarartory, cardiovascular system and muscle cells to inspire, transport and utilise oxygen the greater the VO2 max
As strong repirartory muscle -inspire more air
Increase in SV and Q
Age
From the early 20s VO2 Max declines approximately 1% per year
Gender
women have 15-30% lower VO2 max then men
Training
Aerobic training will increase by 10 - 20% and can maintain while ageing
