What are strains?
A
Muscle or tendon injury
Tearing of collagen due to over contracting/ stretching

What increases the likelyhood of strains?
A
Two joint muscles Eccentric contraction (deceleration phase) Higher percentage of type 2 muscle fibres

How do you manage strains?
A
Depends on severity/ healing times POLICE/PRICE?PEACE&LOVE Mobilisation ASAP Strength/loading Proprioception Endurance training Surgery

What are sprains?
A
Stretch and/ or tear of ligaments
Usually caused by outside force causing movement out of ROM
Most recover with conservative management

How do you manage a sprain?
A
Dependant on severity/ healing time POLICE/PRICE/PEACE&LOVE Early mobilisation Early weight bearing Excersises Education Return to sport if applicable Surgery

How do you grade sprains and strains?
A
Grade 0 - Normal
Grade 1 - stretching/small tears
Grade 2 - larger but incomplete tears
Grade 3 - complete tear
