What is hip impingement?
A
Abnormality of fem head and acetabulum contact
2 types:
Cam-Type FAI
Pincer-Type FAI

What is Cam-Type FAI?
A
Caused by irregular Ossetia prominence of the femoral head/ head neck junction
Anterosuperior aspect of fem head/neck junction
Prominent in young active males
X-ray -90 degrees flexion, 20 degrees abduction

What is Pincer-Type FAI?
A
Result of excess acetabular coverage of fem head
Coverage: global (coax profoundly) or focal anteriorly (acetabular retroversion)
Friction between both surfaces - impacting on the labrum
Lat centre edge angle greater than 40 degrees

What are the symptoms of FAI?
A
Difficulty and pain sitting cross legged Difficulties putting on socks or shoes Long periods of sitting difficult Slight or more severe limp Pain walking long distance - pain less is not instant after rest Significant pain after sport Buttock/ low back pain
