Stomach Flashcards
What is the cardia of the stomach?
The superior opening of the stomach.
What is the fundus of the stomach?
Rounded portion, superior to the cardia.
What is the body of the stomach?
The large, central portion of the stomach.
What is the pylorus of the stomach?
Connects the stomach to the duodenum.
What is the inferior oesophageal sphincter?
Located between oesophagus and stomach. In non-eating state, the lumen of the oesophagus is collapsed. When the stomach is full, entry into it is closed by this sphincter.
What is the pyloric sphincter?
Between the pylorus and the duodenum. Controls exit of food and gastric acid from stomach.
What is the greater omentum?
Hangs down from the greater curvature of the stomach - draping over the transverse colon and folding back on itself to reach the posterior abdominal wall. Contains lymph nodes, helping to combat infection.
What is the lesser omentum?
Continuous peritoneal layers of stomach and duodenum - combine at lesser curvature of stomach, and attach to the liver.
Where are the right and left gastric arteries?
At the lesser curvature of the stomach, where they anastomose.
Where are the right and left gastro-omental arteries?
At the greater curvature of the stomach, where they anastomose.
What is the nerve supply of the stomach?
Sympathetic nerve supply from T6-T9 spinal cord segments. Parasympathetic nerve supply from posterior vagal trunks.
