What is the function of the spleen?
A blood filter - removes old red blood cells and plays a role in immune response.
What is the function of the gastrosplenic ligament?
Connects spleen to greater curvature of the stomach.
What connects the hilum of the spleen to the left kidney?
The splenorenal ligament.
Where are the splenic notches?
On the anterior and superior borders of the spleen.
What is the arterial supply of the spleen?
From the splenic artery. Splenic artery branches into 5 vessels at the spleen, which each supply a different part of the organ.
What is the venous drainage of the spleen?
From the splenic vein, which combines with the superior mesenteric vein to form the hepatic portal vein.
What is the nerve supply of the spleen?
From the coeliac plexus.
Is the spleen retro- or intraperitoneal?
Intraperitoneal.
What are the surfaces of the spleen?
Diaphragmatic and visceral.
What is the lymphatic drainage of the spleen?
Lymph vessels emerge from the hilum, pass through a few lymph nodes before draining into celiac nodes.
