Posterior Abdominal Wall Flashcards
What are the attachments of quadratus lumborum?
Origin = iliac crest and iliolumbar ligament.
Insertion = transverse processes of L1-L4 and inferior border of 12th rib.
What are the actions of quadratus lumborum?
Extends and laterally flexes the vertebral column.
What is the innervation of quadratus lumborum?
Anterior rami of T12-L4 nerves.
What are the attachments of psoas major?
Origin = transverse processes of T12-L5.
Attachment = lesser trochanter of femur.
What are the actions of psoas major?
Flexes thigh at hip, laterally flexes the vertebral column.
What is the innervation of psoas major?
Anterior rami of L1-L3 nerves.
What is the attachment of psoas minor?
Origin = vertebral bodies of T12 and L1.
Attaches = pectineal line.
What is the action of psoas minor?
Flexes the vertebral column.
What is the innervation of psoas minor?
Anterior rami of L1 nerves.
What are the attachments of iliacus?
Origin = surface of iliac fossa and anterior superior iliac spine.
Attaches = trochanter of femur.
What is the action of iliacus?
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint.
What is the innervation of the iliacus muscle?
By the femoral nerve.
What is the thoracolumbar fascia?
A fascia which has 3 layers - posterior, middle and anterior.
Quadratus lumborum lies between the anterior and middle; deep back muscles lie between middle and posterior.
