What do you do to rectify sticky brakes when stationary?
Rapid succession of BCH from RELEASE to STEP 7
Apply minimum power to move train
Shut off and roll to feel for retardation
If train rolls freely monitor and book as rectified in running
If you tried rapid succession of EP from RELEASE to STEP 7 and it didn’t work, what do you do next?
TC, PA, reactive track access, full cab unattended
Inspect brakes for heat, smoke, discolouration
Isolate bogie and confirm all brakes have released
What do you do if you’ve isolated bogie and brake cylinders have not released?
Isolate SPB IC
Manually release SPB
If you have isolated a bogie what are you required to do?
Complete FWN and place copy in both ends
Place reduced speed sticker near speedo in both ends
What is the max no. Of bogies that can be isolated on a revenue service?
3 car - 1 bogie
6 car - 2 bogies
Do you go in the loop with sticky brakes?
No
If you have locked/jammed/skidding wheels what speed can you do?
5 kmh
If locked/jammed/ skidding wheels are on leading axle which direction can you travel?
You can’t go forward.
Return to rear
If locked/jammed/ skidding wheels are on trailing motor what direction can you travel?
Train must continue forward
If locked/jammed/ skidding wheels are on intermediate wheels what direction can you travel?
Train can be moved in either direction.
After locked/jammed/ skidding wheels on a section of track, what speed can you travel if infrastructure personnel are there?
Reduced speed
