Pneumatic Faults Flashcards
What pressure do the Compressor Governors maintain MR air at?
585 - 725 kPa
If a CG becomes defective how can you isolate it?
CG isolating cock
What happens when you turn the CG isolating cock?
Air is isolated to the CG and it detects 0kPa.
This causes compressors to run continuously
What happens when CG CB is tripped?
When a CG is electrically isolated it will not power the compressor contactor circuit
Other CG on train can power it so all compressors will operate.
If you have a faulty Compressor Governor what do you do?
Trip CG CB in each car until compressor stops operating.
Only if time permits as compressors are designed to run continuously.
What pressure does the MR safety valve protect MR from overcharging?
775kPa
If the CG CB is tripped how would you take off train-lined SPBs?
Set CG CB
Take Park Brake off
Trip CG CB
If there is no fault with CG, what other reason might compressors run continuously?
CG Isolating Cock in isolated position would cause compressors to run continuously.
What equipment runs off MR air? (10)
Door systems
Pantographs
MA Contactors
Air suspension systems
BP Charging
CG
EP braking
Control Res. System (traction)
SPB system
Whistle
What do you do if you have a MR pipe defect on Leading Motor
Turn MR taps in MC and TC
Manually Release SPBs
Lower pantos and elec / pneum isolate
Turn Motors to ALL OUT
Isolate VICERS
Isolate Door Loop Bypass
Trip CG CB
CE opens BVICS on trailing MC to charge BP so train can be powered from leading MC.
Passengers moved to another car.
TMM
When there is a MR rupture in lead cab with CE available what brake will you be running on?
Air Brake
Only emergency position will be available to driver
When there is a MR rupture in lead cab with CE available what speed do you travel at?
15kmh
MR rupture on any other MC
Turn MR taps at both ends of MC
Manually Release SPBs
Lower pantos and elec / pneum isolate
Turn Motors to ALL OUT
Isolate Door Loop Bypass and VICERS
Isolate Yellow TECHAV
Return to cab and open BVICS and lower trip
Trip EP CB
Release train lined SPB
TMM
With MR rupture on any trailing car what speed will you do?
Half track speed to max of 30kmh
What are the two main things we worry about with MR rupture on TC?
Airbags and doors
What do you do if MR tank ruptures?
Close MR delivery IC
Compressor Contactor isolating switch off
Isolate CG CB
What do you do if a flexible MR hose between cars bursts?
Close MR end cocks on both sides of affected hose
TMM
When running with deflated air suspension what is the speed restriction?
Half of the speed for that section to a max of 30 kmh
Where does Control Res receive air from?
Main Res
What pressure is Control Res reduced to?
490kPa
What happens if Control res air is insufficient?
Line breakers won’t close and that MC will not power.
Other MCs will still power
What do you do if the Control Res is ruptured?
Isolate the Control Res. IN IC
Turn Motor Cut-Out Switch to ALL OUT
What do you do if there is a rupture in the pipe on the Line Breaker side of the Control Res.?
Isolate the Control Res. OUT IC
Turn Motor Cut-Out Switch to ALL OUT
What do you do if Control Res. air is leaking from Trip Latching Lever?
Isolate the Trip Gear IC in the Van Cabinet.
Trip would need to be secured in raised position.
