Loss Of 1500vDC Power Flashcards
What 1500v DC equipment if develops short circuit, can cause overhead power supply to shut down to avoid damage to substation?
Pantographs
Motor Alternators
Air Compressors
Traction equipment
Associated circuits
EXAM - trains cause faults not substations
When there is loss of overhead power how many times will overhead system attempt to reset itself?
Twice
What happens to Comeng doors if there is no overhead power?
Doors are released
What will Metrol do if unable to restore overhead power?
Make radio group call requesting all drivers to lower pantographs
When overhead power has been restored what will Metrol do?
Depart one train at a time in one minute intervals
What does the driver have to do once instructed to depart?
Raise all pantographs
Start all MAs
Run in SERIES until location advised by TC
When no comms are available and train fails what must a driver not do?
Don’t assume loss of overhead power has occurred.
With no comms and train fails what should a driver do?
- Trip, Switches, Gauges, Cocks
- Check 110vDC power - bell, low pressure flag, EP brake operational
- Check AC power available - non- emergency saloon lights available, van area cab light, headlights
With no comms, once train is started how long do you have to wait before applying power?
Then what do you do?
30 seconds for an up train
60 seconds for a down train
Run in SERIES until next station
How long will emergency lights operate with no overhead power?
2 hours
How will Driver know the emergency lighting needs to be reset?
Battery charger light will flash
Turn marker lights from auto to any position and back again.
How long will PA system remain operational?
2 hours.
Will be reset with lighting.
What are the two components of the LSM that monitor train status?
Time Delay Relay
Speed Threshold
What is the LSM Speed threshold?
8kmh
What does LSM do with BVICS open in leading car if speed is over 8kmh and overhead power is lost?
EP CB trips - running on air brake
Shuts down local MA
Lowers all trailing pantographs
