There is an overload on a MC
What do you do to attempt to fix it?
Press Traction Equipment Reset button
What does the Line SW fault light mean?
A line breaker (motor) has failed to close on a motor car
What do you do to attempt to fix it?

What does the MA fault light mean?
A MA is not running on a motor car
What do you do to attempt to fix it?

What do you do to attempt to fix it?
Press the Traction Equipment Reset button.
If that doesn’t work …
isolate the Rheo by flicking the Rheo toggle switch.
What does it mean if the This Car fault light is illuminated with any of those fault lights?
The corresponding fault is on this MC
What does a STEADY Air Cond. fault light mean?
No more than one AC has failed on any one car.
With This Car fault light it means no more than one AC has failed on this car
What does a FLASHING Air Cond. fault light mean?
At least one car has both ACs failed.
With This Car fault light it means Both AC on this car have failed.
When the train is stopped … What does it mean if the Wheel Slip light is illuminated?
there is a fault in the wheel slip UNIT
When the train is in motion and the wheel slip light illuminates what does it mean?
There is a difference in speed greater than 15kmh between axles on one MC or TC during powering or braking.
What equipment does the Control CB supply 110vDC to? (6)
Master Controller and Reverser
Traction equipment reset button
Remote pantograph raise and lower button
Electric brake demand circuit
Speedo
Control Governor
What happens when the Control CB trips?
You have to find the fault because the MCH will be affected, therefore the train cannot be driven from the leading motor
What do you do if the Control CB trips when you push the remote pantograph RAISE button?
Raise Pantographs manually by using local Panto EP button on each car.
Submit TMM
What do you do if the Control CB trips when you push the remote pantograph LOWER button?
Reset the Control CB
Electrically isolate the pantograph EP valve
Press remote pantograph lower button
… if the CB remains set, the fault is in the EP valve. Manually lower and isolate the pants (electrically and pneumatically) and submit TMM
What happens if the Control CB trips in the trailing MC?
You have to go and reset it because you will get FDCL and will not be able to power.
What are the other things in the trailing MC that can give you FDCL?
Control CB
Aux. CB
Marker lights wrong position
Second BVICS open
What equipment, if defective, may cause the Control CB to trip?
Master Controller
Train Cable
Reverser equipment
Traction power control equipment
Rheo brake demand circuit
… on any MC in the consist
What is the probable cause if the Control CB trips with:
- MCH 0
- Reverser OFF
- Panto RAISE/LOWER not pressed
- BCH in RELEASE
i.e. just arrived at cab
A short circuit between the Control CB and Reverser/ (MCH)
EXAM!!
In this instance, what can the driver do?
You need a CE to power train from another MCH
You need a train to assist you clear of the line
What is the probable cause if the Control CB trips with:
- MCH 0
- Reverser FORWARD, NEUTRAL,
- EP CB set
- BCH in 1-7
i.e. as soon as reverser moved from OFF
Rheo and EP brake energised (even if stationary) so …
Short circuit on electric brake demand wire in Train Cable
Fault in Rheo brake control equipment on any MC
What can you do to rectify?
Step 1
Isolate Rheo via Rheo isolating switch
- attempt to reset Control CB
- if still won’t set
Step 2
Trip EP CB to remove electric brake demand from the whole train
