What is a stereotype?
a socially shared belief that certain qualities can be assigned to individuals based on their gender.
What is a role?
set of behaviors defined by our social group for one gender.
What is spotlighting?
highlighting facts of women
What is the masculine generic?
the use of “he” to talk about all people
What is instrumentally and agency?
a concern about accomplishing a task;stereotypes attributed to men relationships, other people.
What is expressiveness, communion?
a concern about relationships, other people; stereotypes attributed to women
Social categorization as a base for stereotypes
sorting individuals can make assumptions because of category membership
What is the social cognitive approach?
sacrificing accuracy for efficiency by allowing things to quickly process, turning into a stereotype
What is an attribution?
the explanation about the cause`s of a persons behavior
What is the self-fulfilling prophecy?
the tendency for a person`s expectations of others to lead the others to behave according to the expectation
What is the Bem Sex role Inventory?
how we assess view ourselves, assess the beliefs
What is the masculinity subscale?
higher values= greater identification with masculine characteristics
What is the feminity subscale?
higher values= greater identification with feminine characteristcs
What is assumption in relation to the bmri?
that everyone has a combination of characteristics on these two subscales
What is the implication?
That there four not two the other two being undifferentiated, adrogynous
