What is sexual violence?
any sexual activity where consent is not obtained or freely given.
What are sexual violence myths?
false beliefs that are widely held, and that serve to justify sexual aggression
What are the incidences of sexual violence?
20% of women have been raped, 13% have experienced sexual coercion, 27% of women have experienced unwanted sexual contact
What is myth #1 and stats?
all rapists are strangers, false because most women have been raped by people they know

husbands cant rape their wives false because women are victims of being raped by an intimate partner

men cant be rape false because most men have been raped in their lifetime; most rapes occur before the age of 10

preventing sexual, domestic violence before it even occurs.
What is the social ecological model of primary prevention, the guidelines?
that prevention strategies should come from all levels societal, community, relationship, and individual
What is the individual level factors?
relationship to a persons knowledge, attitudes, behavior, history, demographics, and biology
What is the relationship level strategies?
influence of parents, siblings, peers, and intimate partners.
What is the community level strategies?
norms, customs, or experience with local institutions
