Steam Generator Flashcards

1
Q

Function

A
  • Under normal operating conditions, the S/Gs provide sufficient heat transfer capacity to convert feedwater to steam, as required, for the turbine and auxiliaries during all modes of operation.
  • Provides sufficient heat removal capacity to allow the main steam system to remove the total heat generated in the RCS during accident conditions.

Q

Steam Flow Limiter

7 Ventruis

A
  • Protect the containment from exceeding its design pressure and prevent excessive cooldown rate of the RCS by limiting the steam flow that can result from a MSLB.
  • Does not effect normal operations.

Q

Swirl Vane Moisture separator

A
  • 1st stage moisture separation occurs in the swirl vanes where the velocity of the steam-water mix is converted to a rotary velocity, creating a centrifugal effect.
  • 3 swirl vane assemblies per s/g
  • Separated water is drained back to the downcomer where it combines with feedwater for another pass
