What is indicated for?
Primary or secondary prevention of major adverse cardiovascular events
Dyslipidaemia
How do they work?
Inhibit HMG CoA reductase thereby lowering cholesterol production
What are some of the side effects of these drugs?
Headache
GI upset
Muscle aches
Increased liver enzymes
myopathy
Rhabdomyolysis
What are the warnings of these drugs?
Hepatic impairment
Renal impairment (except rosuvastatin)
They are contraindicated in pregnancy and should be avoided in breastfeeding
What drugs do they interact with?
Cytochrome P450 inhibitors like amiodarone, diltiazem, itraconazole, macrolides, protease inhibitors and grapefruit juice (other than rosuvastatin)- They cause accumulate statin
