Static Water Supply Sources Flashcards
What is meant by theoretical lift?
Theoretical lift is the scientific height that a column of water may be lifted by atmospheric pressure in a true vacuum.
What is meant by maximum lift?
The height to which any amount of water may be raised through a hard suction hose to a pump.
What is meant by dependable lift?
The height of a column of water may be lifted in sufficient quantity to provide a reliable fire flow.
What are some factors to be considered when drafting from a static natural water source?
Inability to position the pumper close enough to the water
Wet/soft ground
Inadequate depth of water source
Silt or debris
Freezing weather
Swift water
What are some examples of artificial static water supply sources?
Cisterns
Private water storage tanks
Ground reservoirs
Swimming pools
Agricultural irrigation ponds
