Pump Operations Flashcards
When bringing on a hydrant the operator should ______ the pump discharge pressure and ______ the hand line pressure to compensate for a potential pressure spike.
Raise, reduce
Before charging lines, operators must ensure that ______
The nozzle firefighter is ready for water
After bringing on the hydrant, operators need to ____ the compound gauge, ____ the tank to pump valve, and ____ the tank fill valve.
Mark, close, open
Most CFD apparatus have a water capacity of ____
2500 litres
High rise pumping operations
Ensure that the supply engine’s discharge pressure remain 150 kpa below the system pressure of the building to prevent the on/off pressure switch of the building system fire pump from actuating.
High rise pumping operations
A pressure drop in the system of 150 kpa during high rise pumping operations can be a good indication of a substantial amount of water flowing which in turn is an indicator of a drop in residual pressure that could affect handlines. It can also indicate that the fire pump has failed. It is at this point that the fire department engine should take over pumping the building.
What is the maximum practical lift of suction?
10 meters
What is the maximum lift of suction?
7.5 meters
What are two types of relay CFD uses?
Volume Based Relay: Maximum distance relay based on determining what the required volume will be at a fire.
Constant Pressure Relay: Provides maximum flow available from a particular relay setup by using constant pressure in the system.
How is relay pumping established?
Start supplying water at 800 kpa, increase to 1000 kpa (most efficient pump discharge pressure) when more water is required. Do not exceed 1260 kpa. 1260 kpa is the pressure of the blow off valve in the 125mm discharge. 1400 kpa is the max for 125 mm LDH but cannot be ran to this pressure.
