Static Electricity Flashcards
What is Coloumb’s law? (Formula)
1/4πε(Q1.Q2/d^2)
What is Coulomb’s law (Definition)
The (attractive/repulsive) electrostatic force between point charges is proportional to the product of their charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
Define the Coulomb.
The Coulomb is a unit of charge.
1 Coulomb = The charge on 6.25x10^18 electrons.
What is a conductor?
A medium that allows electric charge to flow through it easily.
What is an insulator?
A medium that does not allow electric charge to flow through it easily.
How do you demonstrate that like charges repel?
Charge a polythene rod, and then hold it near a negatively charged rod placed on a watch glass (oil underneath).
The rod on the glass should pivot away from the polythene rod as like charges repel.
