Force and Momentum Flashcards
What’s meant by a body’s momentum?
It is the product of that body’s mass and its velocity.
What’s Newton’s 1st Law?
Any object that is at a constant velocity will remain so unless an external force acts upon it.
What’s Newton’s 2nd Law?
The rate of change of a body’s momentum is proportional to the force applied and it will act in the direction of the applied force
What’s Newton’s 3rd Law?
If an object A exerts a force on object B, object B will exert a force on object A that is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the applied force.
What’s Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation?
That all point masses in the universe are attracted to each other by a force, along the line of their centres, that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
What is required for weightlessness to be experienced?
All forces must be balanced out.
What’s a force?
Anything that causes an object to move (direction) or change velocity.
