Stapling Flashcards
What does the GIA stand for and what is it used for?
Gastro-intestinal-Anastomosis
-also known as the intra luminal anastomossis ILA
used for bowel resection and anastamosis
What does the TA stand for what are the indications?
Thoracoabdominal stapler
- no cutting action
- causes an everting staple line
indicated for organ resections: spleen, liver, organs that are highly vascularised and you cannot suture properly
indicated for Resection of Foal Meckel diverticulum (embryonic remnant)
What does LDS stand for and what are the indications?
ligating-Dividing-Stapler
ligating vessels
What does EEA stand for and what are the indications?
End-End Anastomosis
How do you sterilise a GIA?
Gas sterilise
formaldehyde
What characteristic feature does an EEA have ?
large wing nutt in the back
how are the staples in a GIA arranged and why?
there is a double row, offset to ensure no leakage
Which stapler has a circular staple line
EEA
end-end anastamosis
Which stapler has a circular staple line
EEA
end-end anastamosis
Which instrument is used to do a side to side anastamosis ?
GIA
-inverting staple line
requires a good night stitch
Describe the process used with End - End anastomosis with TA
- 3 stay sutures
- each side of the triangle with TA
What is a functional end - end anastomosis
- line up bowel to be resected
- make two stab incisions
- join bowel with GIA
- resect bowel with TA
What instruments can be used in a colon resection?
- colon clamp
- TA
- everting suture pattern
What instruments are used in a cecocolon anastomosis?
side to side anastomosis with GIA
