Normal position = right ventral abdomen
Approaches:
1) Right flank omentopexy
2) Left flank abomasopexy
3) Right paramedical abomasipexy
4) Closed suture or bar techniques
What type of suture pattern is used for left flank abomasopexy?
Simple continuous pattern on the greater curvature of the abomasum
What happens in an abomasal fistula?
Fluid content from the abomasum, leaks through canal to the outside.

What is a simple abomasal displacement?
Abomasal volvulus/Simple displacement/Right displaced abomasum
- 180 degree twist
- greater curvature of abomasum no longer contact with body wall ventrally
- twists 2 ways
From behind the cow: twist is counterclock wise
From the right side : twist is counterclock wise (goes dorsally)

Twist abomasum clockwise!!!
What is the preferred surgical option for RDA?
RIGHT flank omentopexy!!!!!!
You can also do a right paramedical abomasopexy
How do you find the pylorus in the COW?
Look for the sows ear-hard fibrous structure of the omentum
-if you see it, means the volvulus has been corrected
What is a good prognostic indicator after RDA correction?
1) Sternal
2) Good appetite
3) feces on the wall
What clinical signs would you expect with Cecal dilatation/Cecal Displacement/Cecal Volvulus
PING in the Right paralumbar fossa

Left paralumbar fossa

Distended viscus (empty space) 4in in diameter at the brim of the pelvis. -more towards the right side
