Standards to memorize for exam Flashcards
Standards and References frequently mentioned in the LEED Green Associate Exam study material. Mnemonics used come from either GBES or Designer Hacks.
ASHRAE 55
Standard that defines the range of indoor thermal environmental conditions acceptable to a majority of occupants.
Mnemonic: to stay warm you put your hands (which have 5 fingers) and wrap around your body, therefore “55” is about thermal comfort.
ASHRAE 90.1
Standard that sets minimum requirements for energy-efficient design of most buildings. (except low-rise residential)
Mnemonic: When I was growing up in the 90’s the electric slide was cool. 90 = energy use
ASHRAE 62.1
Standard that specifies ventilation rates and other measures to provide indoor air quality and minimizes adverse health effects.
Mnemonic: 62 rhymes with IAQ (Indoor Air Quality)
ASHRAE 52.2
The air-filter standard. Measures air filter efficiency by how well the filter captures specific particle sizes
Mnemonic: a face mask with 5 folds and 2 layers is the ultimate filter for COVID-19. 52 = air filter efficiency.
As MERV filter rating system increases….?
Filters with higher MERV ratings trap small particles more effectively.
ISO 14044
Specifies requirements and provides guidelines for life-cycle assessment (LCA).
Mnemonic: number 4 in Asian culture is associated with death. The 3 “4”s represent birth, life, and death. The remaining 1 and 0 make “10” and represent the whole LCA process and analysis of it.
Montreal Protocol
This protocol banned the production of CFC refrigerants and is phasing out HCFC refrigerants.
Mnemonic: Roses are red and Violets are blue, CFCs kills our ozone layer and HCFCs will not be pursued.
In order to get credit for sourcing regional materials, they must be sourced within ____ miles
100 (miles)
Green vehicles are cars that have a minimum green score of ___ on the ACEEE annual vehicle rating guide.
45
Indoor and Outdoor water use reduction are recognized as being what percentage much better than code?
20% and 30% better than code respectively
CHECK
What are the baseline Flush and Flow rates?
1.6 gpf toilet, 1.0 gpf urinal, and 2.2gpm faucet
Note: LEED requires 20% better than these baselines.
