Dorsoplantar Toes: Image Receptor Size
-Film: 1/2 of an 8 x 10” film divided crosswise in landscape orientation
-Digital: 8 x 10” or 10 x 12” in portrait orientation
Dorsoplantar Toes: Patient Positioning
Patient is lying supine with affected knee in flexion. Affected foot is placed in plantar flexion, with the plantar aspect of the foot placed against receptor
Dorsoplantar Foot: Central Ray Position
Through the center of the 3rd metatarsophalangeal joint
Dorsoplantar Foot: Collimation
Just beyond the tip of the great toe, and just lateral to the width of the foot
Medial Oblique Toes: Patient Measurement
Dorsoplantar, through the 3rd metatarsophalangeal joint

Medial Oblique Toes: Patient Positioning
Patient is seated or lying supine with the affected knee in flexion with affected foot placed in plantar flexion and medial foot/plantar side touching the image receptor
-Lateral aspect of the foot is angled 30-35 degrees away from the image receptor
Medial Oblique Toes: Central Ray Position
Through the center of the 3rd metatarsophalangeal joint
Medial Oblique Toes: Collimation
Just beyond the tip of the great toe, and just lateral to the width of the foot
Lateral Toes: Patient Measurement
Laterally, at the level of the navicular
Lateral Toes: SID

Lateral Toes: Image Receptor Size
8 x 10” or 10 x 12”
Lateral Toes: Patient Positioning
-Patient is seated or lying on the affected side for toes 3,4 or 5 or the unaffected side for toes 1 or 2
-For toes 3,4 or 5: Lateral aspect of the foot is placed against the image receptor
-For toes 1 or 2, the medial aspect of the foot is placed against the image receptor
-All toes, except toe of interest may be elevated using an elastic band, tape or tip of a pen (lead glove)
Lateral Toes: Central Ray Position
Through the 1st MTP joint or proximal interphalangeal joints of the remaining toes
Lateral Toes: Collimation
Just beyond the tips of the toes, and to the height of the foot
