Standard Knee Views Flashcards
AP Knee: SID
39”
AP Knee: Tube Tilt
-5 degrees cephalic (small to average sized patients)
-0 to 5 degrees caudal (thicker patients)
AP Knee: Image Receptor Size
-Smallest image receptor available (8 x 10” or 10 x 12”)
AP Knee: Patient Position
-Patient lies with the posterior aspect of the affected knee touching the grind and centered to the image receptor.
-The lower extremity on the affected side is internally rotated 15 degrees
AP Knee: Central Ray Position
1/2” distal to the apex of the patella
AP Knee: Collimation
To the lateral margins of the soft tissues horizontally and to image receptor size (10 x 12”) vertically
AP Knee: Breathing Instructions
Suspended Motion (“Don’t Move”)
AP Knee: Patient Measurement
Anterior to Posterior, through the knee joint 1/2 distal to the apex of the patella
Lateral Knee: Patient Measurement
Laterally, 1” distal to the medial epicondyle
Lateral Knee: SID
39”
Lateral Knee: Tube Tilt
5 degrees cephalic
Lateral Knee: Image Receptor Size
8 x 10” or 10 x 12” in portrait orientation
Lateral Knee: Patient Positioning
-Patient lies with affected side with knee flexed 20-30 degrees and on image receptor
-Lateral aspect of the knee if touching image receptor
-Femoral condyles lined ip and long axis of femur is parallel to length of image receptor
-CL leg may be crossed over the thigh of the affected side
Lateral Knee: Central Ray Position
1” distal to the center of the medial epicondyle
Lateral Knee: Collimation
8 x 10” or 10 x 12”
