Standard Lumbosacral Views Flashcards
AP Lumbosacral: Patient Measurement
Anterior to Posterior, through the thickest portion of the abdomen (iliac crest region)
AP Lumbosacral: Source to Image Distance
40”
AP Lumbosacral: Tube Tilt
None
AP Lumbosacral: Image Receptor Size
14 x 17” in portrait orientation
AP Lumbosacral: Central Ray Position
Midline and at the level of the Iliac crease for larger patients to 1.5 inches above the iliac crest (smaller patients)
AP Lumbosacral: Collimation
17” vertically and 6-8” horizontally, wider if scoliosis is suspected
AP Lumbosacral: Marker Placement
Directly on the image receptor, adjacent to the edge of the collimation field just above the central ray.
AP Lumbosacral: Breathing Instructions
Suspended exhalation and motion (“Breathe all the way out and hold completely still”)
Lateral Lumbosacral: Patient Measurement
The most superior aspect of the iliac crests laterally
Lateral Lumbosacral: Source to Image Distance
40”
Lateral Lumbosacral: Tube Tilt
None
Lateral Lumbosacral: Image Receptor Size
14 x 17”
Lateral Lumbosacral: Patient Positioning
Patient stands with his or her lateral iliac crest touching the grid. Arms are flexed out of the collimation field and crossed. Convexity toward if found
Lateral Lumbosacral: Central Ray Position
At level of iliac crest (taller) to 1.5 inches above the iliac crest (short).
-Vertical crosshair located halfway between the ASIS and PSIS
Lateral Lumbosacral: Collimation
17” vertically and just wide enough to accomodate the lordosis horizontally (10”-14”)
