PA Hand: Patient Positioning
-Patient is seated with affected hand placed with palmar side down with fingers flat against image receptor and slightly spread apart.
-Wrist joints should be in neutral position
PA Hand: Central Ray Position
Through the center of the third metacarpophalangeal head
PA Hand: Collimation
To 1/2 of the image receptor or size of the hand, including all the fingertips and all wrist joints
PA Hand: Breathing Instructions
Suspended Motion (“Don’t Move”)
Palmar Medial Oblique Hand: SID

Palmar Medial Oblique Hand: Image Receptor Size
The smallest image receptor available (8 x 10” or 10 x 12”), in portrait orientation
Palmar Oblique Hand: Patient Positioning
-Patient makes the “Okay” sign with their fingers and hand/wrist are placed on the image receptor with palmar side down w/medial aspect of the hand, wrist and fingertips touching the image receptor.
-1st and second digits are spread apart slightly
-Hand should be at a 45 degree ankle to the image receptor
Palmar Oblique Hand: Central Ray Position
Through the center of the 3rd metacarpal head
Palmar Oblique Hand: Collimation
To 1/2 of the image receptor or size of the hand including all finger tips and all wrist joints
Palmar Medial Oblique Hand: Breathing Instructions
Suspended motion (“Don’t Move”)
Lateral Hand: SID
